Biomedical Resource Center

What we do

The Biomedical Resource Center (BRC) provides core support for animal-based programs. The BRC employs a facility manager and full-time veterinarian who work to sustain a high-quality environment which includes state of the art animal husbandry and veterinary medical care. BRC staff are available for consultation regarding veterinary services and animal welfare.

Mission Statement

To maintain a fully accredited animal care program that supports teaching, research and service. The use of laboratory animals and teaching in research is a fundamental necessity of progress in the biomedical sciences, such use of animals constitutes a special privilege for the ACHE Research Institute Health and Wellness Center scientific community. The BRC’s mission is to fulfill all ethical as well as legal responsibilities and therein lies the hope for continued medical progress for animals as well as humanity.

Adrienne Allen, DVM, CPIA, DACLAM

Attending Veterinarian at ACHE
Associate Professor of Pathophysiology

Dr. Allen received her DVM degree in 1996 from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She then worked in private practice and academia until she entered the field of laboratory science in 2002 by way of a residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She has worked in the field of laboratory medicine for 20 years while simultaneously conducting her own research projects resulting in several publications on microvasculature dynamics. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and a Certified Professional IACUC Administrator.

Whether it’s about the treatment, facilities, or any other aspect of care, your report allows us to address concerns comprehensively and make necessary improvements. No adverse action will be taken against anyone making a report. You are NOT required to give your name.

Report concerns anonymously by calling 479-434-4050 or by visiting the “Animal Welfare Concern” form found on MyACHE. Direct numbers to the IACUC Chair and the Attending Veterinarian are located at the bottom of the form.
